The Peak 2 Peak competition connects two of Queenstown's highest points: the Remarkables and Coronet Peak ski areas. Competitors have to be fit, not to mention multi-skilled, to handle this 44km challenge of four different sports.
The Peak 2 Peak route starts with 2km of skiing or snowboarding down the Remarkables Ski Area. This is followed by a 17km mountain-bike ride down Remarkables Road to Frankton Beach, where the athletes board kayaks for a 7km paddle across Lake Wakatipu to Queenstown Bay. From there, it's a 9km run through the town and then an uphill 9km bike ride to the finish line in the Coronet Peak Ski Area.
